Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga And More Tweet Their Congratulations

US President Barack Obama has been re-elected for a second term following a closely fought battle with Republican candidate Mitt Romney.


“This happened because of you. Thank you,” Obama tweeted to his 22 million followers, before posting a pic of himself hugging wife Michelle with the caption “Four more years.”

Soon after the news broke, celebrities flooded Twitter with messages of support and congratulations for the President.

“DONE AND DUSTED!” wrote vocal Obama campaigner Katy Perry. “The people have the power! Proud to stand by you for 4 more years.”

“I JUST GOT OFF STAGE IN COLUMBIA!! CONGRATULATIONS MR. PRESIDENT @BarackObama We are so proud to be American tonight! YES!!! YES! YES!!” wrote Lady Gaga.

“We just couldn't be happier my goodness, the joy when freedom prevails,” she tweeted alongside the happy snap below.

"Put one in da air for the Prez!!!! Our dear Obama!" said pop princess Rihanna.

“YAYYY!!! Proud to be an American!!! Woo hoo!!!!!... Tonight is a good night for women. Proud to be a WOMAN IN AMERICA!!!” gushed Demi Lovato.

Meanwhile superstar Beyonce has posted an impassioned open letter to President Obama on her official website.

“Everyday we see your heart and character, inspiring all of us to give more of ourselves,” reads the hand-written note.

“You are the leader to take us from where we are to where we need to be.”

“You are the reason my daughter and nephew will grow up knowing that they can truly be ANYTHING they want to be.”
